So can Andy Murray become the first Briton to win Wimbledon since 1936?

The Scot is second in the 2009 Wimbledon betting after a stunning rise to become world number three and claiming five tournament victories already this year.

One of these came in the AEGON Championships at Queen's Club, where he not only won his first ever grass court tournament, but also became the first Briton to win the event since 1938. As a result, Murray's 2009 Wimbledon odds are very short – only five time former champion Roger Federer is ahead of him in the betting.

Murray's best performance at Wimbledon came in the 2008 Championships, where he made the quarter-finals before being defeated by eventual champion Rafael Nadal. His best ever Grand Slam achievement came in reaching the final of the 2008 US Open, where he lost out to Federer in straight sets.

Andy Murray betting has attracted feverous attention for a number of months as the Scot has been claiming a succession of impressive titles this year, including the World Tennis Championship (Abu Dhabi), the Qatar Open (Doha), the Miami Masters and the aforementioned AEGON Championships. In all bar the latter, he defeated at least one of Federer, Nadal or Novak Djokovic en route to the title.

After the withdrawal of defending champion Nadal through injury, the Andy Murray best price Wimbledon odds were shortened dramatically as he is now the highest seeded player in his half of the draw.

There has also been increased hype over a possible Federer vs Murray Wimbledon final, with Murray holding a 6-2 lead in their head-to-head record.
